OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2011. The summer flight map of Vilnius International Airport (VIA) expands by a new destination: the airline Wizz Air operates flights to Dortmund Airport, reported the press-centre of Vilnius Airport.

“Today Vilnius Airport greeted the first passengers to Dortmund. We are delighted that the 14th base opened by Wizz Air at Vilnius Airport is successful, and we hope that this is not the last time we can greet the passengers on the occasion of new Wizz Air routes,” VIA Managing Director Tomas Vaisvila says.

The first flight to Dortmund welcomed 89 passengers. Being the largest low-cost airline in Eastern and Central Europe, Wizz Air will operate flights to Dortmund on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The time of departure from Vilnius – 13:30; the time of arrival to Vilnius – 18:05.

The communication between Vilnius and Germany is excellent this summer season because the route opened by Wizz Air is already the fourth direct route from Vilnius to the airports in that country. The routes offered by different air carriers cover nearly the entire Germany: the airline Skyways operates flights to Berlin, Lufthansa offers flights to Frankfurt, whereas the flights to Bremen are available with Ryanair.

Wizz Air aircraft AirbusA320 based in Vilnius Airport operates on 8 routes: Cork (Ireland), London Luton Airport and Doncaster Sheffield Airport in the United Kingdom, Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Barcelona in Spain, Rome Fiumicino Airport and Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy, as well as the route to Dortmund replacing flights to Stockholm Skavsta Airport.

This summer Vilnius Airport services 600 flights per week. 16 airlines operate regular flights from Vilnius to 28 airports across Europe.
