OREANDA-NEWS. August 4, 2011. US stocks bounced during the day with Telecommunications (+0.99%) as leaders and Oil&Gas (-0.55%) as the laggards. S&P 500 index rose by 0.5%, Russell 2000 Index was up by 0.75%. EURUSD finished the day near 1.43.

Good earnings reports (11 of 16 beat estimates) and neutral statistics supported stocks after start-of-trade panic. ADP payrolls rose 115K in July, above consensus estimates of 75K.

Most earnings reports were positive -  total beat/loss ratios reached 274/110 in the US and 92-101 in the Euro-zone.

Asian markets were mixed on Thursday. Hang Seng was down by 0.89%, Nikkei – lost 0.23%. S&P/ASX 200 lost 1.3%. Shanghai stock indices were up by on average 0.3%. Kospi lost 2.31%

The European stock indices futures went up in the morning - Dow Jones Stoxx 50 futures jumped 1.56% while Dax futures was up by 1.4%. S&P futures added 0.44%.

ECB and BOE meetings will be in focus in Europe today.

Weekly jobless claims (12:30 GMT) will be released in the US.
