OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2011. “Marienergosbyt” OJSC paid a fine for abusing market dominance, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

The Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service in the Republic of Mari El (Mari El OFAS Russia) found that “Marienergosbyt” OJSC violated Part 1 Article 10 of the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition”.

“Marienergosbyt” OJSC abused dominant position on the market of buying-and-selling (supplying) electric power by unreasonably notifying consumers and a network organisation about restricting supply of electric power to industrial facilities owned by consumers.

Mari El OFAS Russia fined “Marienergosbyt” OJSC over 26 million Rubles.

“Marienergosbyt” OJSC filed a lawsuit challenging the determination of the antimonopoly body. Arbitration Courts of two instances confirmed legitimacy of conclusions made by Mari El OFAS Russia.

“This is the largest fine imposed by Mari El OFAS Russia in the history of the antimonopoly body. At the same time we would like to point out that imposing fines is not the goal of our Office. Such administrative measures are aimed at preventing abuse of market dominance by economic entities”, commented the Head of Mari El OFAS Russia, Mr. Evgeny Kostyushin.
