OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2011. TNK-BP announces the appointment of Francis Sommer to the position of Senior Vice President, Operations and Technology, Upstream, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.
 
Prior to the appointment F. Sommer headed the Technology Division, which merged with Upstream as a result of Company management structure reorganization.

In his new role, Francis will be in charge of the entire post-exploration operations cycle. Vice President, Operations, Vice President, Wells, and Vice President, Reservoir Management and Reserves will report to him directly.

Francis Sommer joined TNK-BP in late 2005 and has played a major role in new field developments, including Kamennoe, Verkhnechonskoye and Uvat, as well as in the wide implementation of modern technologies.

Mr Sommer received his bachelor's degree in physics from New York University and a master's degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas Austin. He has published articles in the Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT) and has been a member of SPE since 1986. Francis Sommer began his career in the oil and gas industry with Sohio Alaska Petroleum (now a part of BP) in 1986, working on the Prudhoe Bay oil field, Alaska. Later on he held numerous engineering positions, specializing in new field appraisal and development, enhanced oil recovery, reservoir modeling and production forecasting.
