Vaagn Martirosyan has been appointed senior vice-president of Rostelecom and will be in charge of a range of tasks associated with the strategic development of the company, the rollout of new products, services and technologies, as also raising the merged operator’s operating efficiency.

Vaagn Artavazdovich Martirosyan was born on December 8, 1951 in Tbilisi.

In 1974 he graduated from the Erevan Polytechnic Institute with a major in “Automatics and Telemechanics”. In 1980 he completed graduate school at the Institute of Management Issues under the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Instrument-Making of the USSR.

From 1974 to 1977 he worked as engineer, senior engineer, and also leading engineer at the Erevan division of the Scientific Research Institute of Telecommunications. From 1980 to 1993 he worked as head of laboratory, head of a scientific division, first deputy head of the Erevan division of the Erevan division of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Telecommunications.

In 1993 he was hired at Central Telegraph as deputy head of the enterprises for the creation of new technologies. In June 1995 he was named deputy general director of Central Telegraph for business development, and in 1997 he was appointed deputy general director. From 2001 until 2007 he was general director of Central Telegraph.

On June 8, 2007 he was appointed director general of CenterTelecom. In April 2011 he was named vice-president and head of Rostelecom’s Center macro-regional branch.

He holds the honorary distinctions “Distinguished Telecommunications Employee”, and “For Merit as Telecommunications Employee”. In addition, he was awarded a medal “For Labor Merit”.

According to Rostelecom president Alexander Provotorov, “Vaagn Martirosyan possesses a unique set of skills and has experience in efficient and successful management amid fierce competition. This will definitely allow him to efficiently resolve the complex tasks which currently face our company”.
