OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2011. Using capabilities of its national network Rostelecom carries on eliminating digital inequality on the territory of Russia providing small settlements with up-to-date telecommunication services.

For example, over 2,300 out of 3,638 Rostelecom-Siberia automatic telephone systems located in the rural area have been replaced by electronic ones. Thus, digitalization level of telephone network in Siberian rural areas and villages exceeded 64%. Volume of Rostelecom’s current investments scheduled for development of traditional telephone communication in the rural area doubled the investments of 2010.   

Moreover, since the beginning of the current year Rostelecom has provided broadband Internet access under xDSL technology to more than 230 rural areas, settlements and villages in the Siberian Federal District. The largest number of rural settlements was connected in Novosibirsk Region (59), Kemerovo Region (61) and Altai Territory (61).

In addition to digital telephony and high-speed Internet access Rostelecom provided access to Twist Interactive IP-television services in 35 Siberian rural settlements.
