OREANDA-NEWS. August 15, 2011. BM&FBOVESPA holds the 5th International Financial and Capital Markets Conference over August 25-27. The biennial meeting is held in the town of Campos do Jordao in the state of Sao Paulo, to host debates on current economic and global financial market issues, including challenges for the derivatives and capital markets, the future of financial intermediation, and algorithmic trading strategies. This fifth edition of the Conference places Brazil on the map of major international events hosting financial debates.

BM&FBOVESPA Chief Executive Officer Edemir Pinto and Chairman of the Board of Directors Arminio Fraga will receive, for lectures and debates, some of the world’s most influential experts about the matters on the agenda. Among their number are Robert Skidelsky, Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick, and a specialist on the work of the economist John Maynard Keynes. Michael Pettis, a professor at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management and expert on the Asian markets will take part in a discussion about the challenges that the Brazil-China relationship will face over the coming years. Robert Engle, 2003 winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, will present an overview on volatility.

Joe Gawronski, President of Rosenblatt Securities, will discuss the future of financial intermediation. Jim Gatheral, professor of Mathematics at Baruch College, City University of New York, will address the question of algorithmic equities trading strategies. Other speakers will be the president of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil, Maria Helena Santana, and Chief Executive Officer of EBX group, Eike Batista.

The Conference is a stage for important debates about global markets. In its four previous editions it brought together famous international figures in the worlds of politics, economics and finances, such as Nobel prizewinners in economics Edmund Phelps, Myron Scholes, Paul Krugman and Robert C. Merton; former directors of the IMF Rodrigo de Rato y Figaredo, Raghuram Rajan, Stanley Fischer and Anne O. Kruger; former President of Brazil Fernando Henrique Cardoso; and former president of the Central Bank of Brazil Henrique de Campos Meirelles.
