OREANDA-NEWS. August 16, 2011. Ricoh has been awarded ‘Prime’ status by oekom research in its oekom corporate rating. Ricoh scored highly for its: implementation of comprehensive product reusability and recycling guidelines; implementation of an ambitious programme to reduce the energy consumption of its products; broad measures to extend the life of its products and its actions to reduce product emissions.  Ricoh was also recognised for its corporate governance and business ethics standards.

oekom research is one of the leading rating agencies worldwide in the field of sustainable investment.  The agency uses a rigorous evaluation method to assess company performance in the areas of social and environmental sustainability.

Ricoh began investing in its CSR program as far back as the 1970’s. The evolution of its corporate social responsibility has progressed from  simply meeting compliance regulations, to exceeding them.  Today the company’s CSR combines ecological concerns with best business practice to drive sustainability and profitability.  Ricoh is one of the few companies in its industry to commit to an extra-long term environmental vision. By 2050 the company will reduce its environmental impact by 87.5%, compared to 2000 levels.

This latest award follows a series of global accolades in 2011 which include being selected as one of the "Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World" by Corporate Knights for the seventh consecutive year, and one of the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute for the third year running as well as being listed for the eighth consecutive year in the FTSE4 Good Index.

Ricoh is also the first company worldwide to launch three 100% eco-powered electronic billboards, the first was in New York’s Times Square, followed by a solar and wind powered board in London and a third in North Sydney, Australia.

Takashi Nakamura, Ricoh Deputy President, responsible for CSR at Ricoh Company, Ltd., says “At Ricoh we encourage a culture that focuses on our customers, our people and our environment.  We are also always seeking new and innovative ways to allow us to combine business benefits with socially responsible actions.  We are delighted to be independently recognised by oekom research for our activities, and pledge to   further our commitment to society and the environment.”
