OREANDA-NEWS. August 22, 2011. The volume of transactions with currency in Moldova’s foreign exchange offices in July 2011 totaled USD 339.5 mln (in equivalent), down 0.8 percent from the previous month. In July 2011, the volume of purchase of cash currency for Moldovan leis totaled USD 261.9 million, down 3.3% in comparison with June and its sales volume increased by 8.9 percent – to USD 74.9 million, according to the National Bank of Moldova.

In the total currency cash turnover, transactions with euros continued to dominate in July, totaling USD 187.3 million (55.6% of the total turnover), down 3.2 percent compared to the previous month. At the same time, the volume of purchase of euros in July reduced by 6.1 percent – to USD 140.6 million, the volume of sales increased by 7.1%, to USD 46.7 million.

The volume of transactions with the USD reduced in July by 1.1% - to USD 114 million (33.9% of the total turnover), with the volume of purchase of dollars decreased by 2.7%, to USD 92.7 million and the volume of sales increased by 6.5% - to USD 21.3 million. The volume of transactions with Russian rubles in July totaled USD 28.7 million (8.5% of the total turnover), exceeding the previous month’s indicators by 9.5 percent.

The volume of purchase of Russian rubles increased by 8.2 percent – to USD 25.1 million, the volume of sales increased by 20 percent – to USD 3.6 million. The amount of transactions with Romanian leis in July totaled USD 2.1 million (0.6% of the total turnover), up 5 percent in comparison with the previous month. The volume of purchase of Romanian leis in July remained on the previous level - USD 1.1 million and the volume of sales increased by 11.1% - to USD 1 million.

The volume of transaction with Ukrainian hrevnya increased by 80.8%, to USD 4.7 million, constituting 1.4% of the total turnover. The volume of purchase of Ukrainian hrevnya increased by 84.6 percent, to USD 2.4 mln, the volume of sales – increased by 76.9% totaling USD 2.3 million.
