OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2011. Once again Karelia is reckoned among environment-friendly regions of the country that follows from results of the public ecological monitoring held in July and published by the All-Russian Society of Nature Conservation.

Public ecological monitoring is compiled according to independent examinations conducted in constituent entities of Russia. The All-Russian Society of Nature Conservation publishes reports on environmental conditions of each region and the country as a whole on a regular basis.

Karelia has joined the eco-rating not for the first time and is recognized one of the environment-friendly regions of the country.

According to the public monitoring held in July, 2011 Karelia is once again reckoned among the most environmentally benign regions of the country along with the Republic of Altai, the Republic of Tyva and the Orel Region.

Assessment criteria of the ecological situation in regions are various and include evaluation of the atmospheric air condition and radiation and chemical environments.

Let's add, that the All-Russian Society of Nature Conservation founded in 1924 is the oldest conservation organization of the country.
