OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2011. The launch ceremony for Chery was held in To Kwa Wan, marking Chery’s entrance into Hong Kong and the debut of a Chinese independent passenger vehicle brand in Hong Kong.

At the ceremony, Trans-Am International Ltd., Chery’s agent in Hong Kong, introduced Chery’s two models to be sold in Hong Kong: A1 and Tiggo. They are both RHD models, and all the indicators have passed the rigorous regulatory certification of the Transport Department of Hong Kong.

Of the two models launched in Hong Kong, A1 is a five-seat first-rated hatchback developed according to complete and standard procedures in the world, it took only three years from initiation to launching, and the model is Chery and China’s first “world car” targeting the global market. As a first-rated car designed and developed with the concept of “world car” and keeping to the route of fineness and quality, A1’s appearance was designed by Chery in cooperation with famous Italian design company Bertone, and interior trim was designed by British experts. The European-style streamlined face is dynamic, making A1 expressive. The barrel-shaped dashboard is creative in combination with the symmetrical cab, the gray-cream seat trim and 3-spoke steering wheel give the impression of delicacy, fashion and sportiness. ACTECO engine independently developed by Chery to equip A1 has weathered years of tests and achieved outstanding market performance. Since getting off to a flying start in Turkey in 2008, A1 has successively landed on countries and regions such as Sudan, Morocco, Russia, Chile, Uruguay, Egypt and Serbia, taken roots in local markets, been popular with overseas consumers and become a worthy star model of Chery.

Tiggo is a SUV bestseller in China. After six years of market tests, Tiggo has achieved cumulative sales of nearly 400,000 units. Integrating trafficability of SUV, comfort of sedan with combination variability of MPV, Tiggo has become a knockout model of Chery in the global market. So far, Tiggo has been sold to over 60 countries and the number of its overseas owners has top 100,000. At the same time, having passed over 50 WVTA (whole vehicle type approval) certifications, Tiggo is recognized as an independent model in line with international standards in the world.

According to the Hong Kong-based agent, Chery cars are cost-effective. A Chery car worth over RMB 100,000 is comparable to a Japanese model worth around RMB 200,000. As for Chery’s sales prospect in Hong Kong, the agent was optimistic. In the near future, they will continue to introduce two key models, A3 and Fulwin 2, and increase the number of sales outlets in Hong Kong from two to four to fully explore Chery’s market potential in Hong Kong.

According to statistics, the number of cars possessed in Hong Kong has topped 4 million, of which European, American, Japanese and Korean brands have gained firm foothold, but only Yutong and King Long tour buses, among Chinese brands, are on sale. Despite the strong momentum of mainland independent passenger vehicles, as Hong Kong is critical of automobile and its certificate standards are close to those of Europe and America, homemade passenger vehicles could not been sold in Hong Kong. It is because of high quality that Chery could pass the regulatory certification of the Transport Department of Hong Kong, showing Chery has made significant improvement in product quality.
