OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2011. Moldovan depositors continue to be cautious when it comes to the term of keeping money in banks. In July 2011, about 42.6 per cent of the deposits in Moldovan lei were put in banks for 3-6 months and about 34.7 per cent for 6-12 months, according to data by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).

As for the deposits in foreign currency, the people's savings are deposited on a medium term as well, with about 424.4 million lei being put in banks for 3-6 months and about 489.8 million lei for 6-12 months.

BNM data show that the people's savings in Moldovan lei reached 1.121.5 billion lei in July, and 1.153.5 billion lei in foreign currency.

Financial experts say that the slight decrease in deposits is triggered by the holiday season, when the spending for treatment and leisure are on the rise. In this period, people are less willing to make savings, spending money on their leisure and holidays.

In July, the banks offered a 9.39-per-cent average interest rate on private people's deposits in Moldovan lei, and a 3.59-per-cent on the deposits in foreign currency, with the figures being higher than in June.
