OREANDA-NEWS. August 31, 2011. Power Machines has shipped the final hydraulic turbine equipment consignment of impellers designed for hydraulic units No. 8 and No. 9 at Boguchanskaya HPP , which is being built by RusHydro and Rusal in Krasnoyarsk Krai.

The turbine wheels, made by Power Machines for Boguchanskaya HPP, are the largest produced in Russia over the last ten years in terms of size and weight. Each wheel is 7.86 metres in diameter and weighs 155.6 tons. In terms of size, these impellers exceed similar hydraulic units for Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, which is part of RusHydro and Krasnoyarskaya HPP.

This heavy weight cargo will be delivered to the power plant the only possible way, by sea and river, which is going to take 35 – 40 days. The route is about 6500 km long. The ship sails along Ladoga and Onega Lakes then through the White Sea-Baltic Sea Canal before entering the White Sea. It then sails along the Northern Sea Route and the Yenisei River before reaching Krasnoyarsk. The equipment is going to be reloaded in Krasnoyarsk onto a river boat, which is to carry the cargo to the power plant construction site on the Angara River. Seven Power Machines hydro turbine wheels had previously been shipped to Boguchanskaya HPP the same way during the 2008 – 2010 navigation periods.

Under the terms of the contract signed in 2006 – 2007 between Power Machines and plant construction partners RusHydro and Rusal, Power Machines designed and manufactured nine hydraulic turbines and nine hydraulic generators, 333 MW each, for Boguchanskaya HPP. Power Machines also provide supervised installation and starting up of the supplied equipment.

There are now six hydraulic generators and nine hydraulic turbine equipment sets at the plant site, excluding the last two turbine wheels shipped today. In addition, Power Machines is carrying out separate assembly shipping of the seventh hydraulic generator.

The first three Boguchanskaya HPP hydraulic units are planned to be brought into operation in the second quarter of 2012. The phased launch of the remaining six hydraulic units and the HPP gaining its designed capacity is scheduled for 2013.

The plant's installed capacity after all hydraulic units are brought into operation is 3000 MW and average long term power generation is 17.6 billion kWЧh.
