OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2011. In August 2011, Russian Railways shipped 105.5 million tons of freight on its own network, an increase of 0.5% on August 2010, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Cargo turnover in August 2011 increased by 2.4% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 177.6 billion tariff ton-kilometres.

According to the latest figures, total shipments in January-August 2011 totalled 819.1 million tons, 3.3% more than during the same period in 2010.

The following categories of freight were shipped:

coal – 193.4 million tonnes (+2.3% compared to January-August 2010)

coke – 8.8 million tonnes (+4.9%)

oil and oil products – 166.8 million tons (-0.1%),

iron and manganese ores – 73.3 million tonnes (+9.4%)

ferrous metals – 49.7 million tons (+3.9%)

scrap ferrous metals – 13.5 million tons (+3.8%)

chemical and mineral fertilisers – 31 million tonnes (+3.1%)

cement – 23.3 million tonnes (+5.4%)

timber – 28 million tons (-2.8%)

grain and ground products – 11.1 million tons (-4.8%)

construction materials – 103 million tons (+11.7%)

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 16.3 million tons (-3.3%)

chemicals and soda – 19.5 million tons (1%)

industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 21 million tons (-11.4%)

containerised cargo – 13.3 million tons (+13.8 %)

Cargo turnover in the first 8 months of 2011 amounted to 1.4 trillion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 6.1% compared to the same period of 2010.
