OREANDA-NEWS. September 09, 2011. Belarus will continue indexing allowances, pensions, scholarships and wages, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting that addressed the country’s social and economic development.

“They criticize us for increasing pensions and indexing wages, but this policy is necessary and we will go on with it,” Lukashenko said.

He believes price hikes are not that bad, as this money will eventually come back to enterprises. The big question is will households have enough to feed themselves?

“Do people have enough to eat today, given our sufficient production of milk and meat and other products? Do people have money for this? I am not saying that we should inject huge sums of money, like it happened before. Money must be earned. But have we created conditions for people to make enough money to provide for their families?” he said.
