OREANDA-NEWS. September 9, 2011. The Mayor of Astana Imangali Tasmagambetov met with the Mayor of Bishkek Isa Omurkulov.
During the meeting the Mayor of Astana said that bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Kyrgyzstan are developing positively in the spirit of strategic and equal partnership. Imangali Tasmagambetov also expressed confidence that this visit will be a vivid evidence of establishment of friendly relations between two cities.
“I think we need to expand our connections, to find some balance. There are very good opportunities for expansion of export-import trade relations between our countries. Astana - you know – is a new city, a new capital and we are open to the world,” the mayor said.
Imangali Tasmagambetov also informed that tens of thousands of trees, about nine million flowers are planted each year in Astana.

In his turn, the Mayor of Bishkek Isa Omurkulov spoke about what he saw in Astana. According to him, he has been seven years ago in the Kazakh capital. And now I do not know the city, except, of course, Baiterek. Everything is so beautiful, - the Kirghiz mayor surprised. - We appreciate your help at a difficult time for us. I think our colleagues in the Mayor’s Office have much to learn from Astana.

According to him, Astana could be called one of the modern and clean cities of the Asian region.

As the result of the meeting the agreement on establishing friendly relations between Bishkek and Astana was signed.

The foreign trade turnover between Astana and the Kyrgyz Republic amounted to U.S. D 26.5 million in January-June 2011, including exports totaled U.S. D 25.5 million, import receipts amounted to U.S. D 1.0 million.
