OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2011. It was said by Moldova’s Prime Minister Vladimir Filat, speaking at the Economic Forum in Krynica. He said Chisinau hopes to get access to the EU’s financial facilities in this sector to cover at least a part of expenses for energy infrastructure development projects. Vladimir Filat underlined that Moldovan authorities support and welcome intensification of the energy integration on the level of the EU states and that Moldova also tries to become a part of this process.

The country’s goal is the joint work for creating a consolidated and competitive regional market, well integrated into the all-European market. Moldova became a part of the European Energy Community, the fact that means gradual implementation of the European legislation in this sector. Prime Minister said the country had been working at modernization of the power infrastructure and bringing it in line with European standards to reach the criteria for joining the Continental European Power Grid. In Filat’s opinion, to realize the ambitious energy program, the EU has to make a more generous offer of cooperation with countries, situated in its immediate proximity, including Moldova that is now presiding the Energy Community.

As it was reported earlier, Chisinau and Bucharest plan to implement projects in the field of natural gas and electric power with the EU’s support. The projects provide for construction of the main gas pipeline Ungheni-Iasi and the high-voltage Balti-Suceava transmission line for interconnecting Moldova with the European power grid.
