OREANDA-NEWS. September 13, 2011. The II Turkmen-Ukrainian Business Forum was held in the framework of the official visit of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich to the Turkmen capital in the conference hall of the Mizan Business Centre in Ashgabat. The forum is organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Embassy of Ukraine in Turkmenistan.

The forum brought together representatives of sectoral ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and the Union of Industrialists and Manufacturers. The Ukrainian delegation was represented by the heads of ministries and departments, large state and private companies, including such world-known companies as the Altcom Industrial Finance Group, the group of companies Eurasian Pipeline Consortium, the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Plant “Ocean” (Nikolaevsk), the Kharkov Tractor Plant Open Joint Stock Company, m. I. Frunze Sumy Machine Building Research and Production Association, the Ukrgazteh Ltd. and the others.

In their opening remarks the forum organizers emphasized that the measures taken to update of the national legislation in line with international law norms had create the conditions conducive to promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in Turkmenistan, including the favourable investment climate. A film about our country and its economic potential was demonstrated for forum participants.

Vladislav Kaskiv, Chairman of the State Agency for Investments and National Projects of Ukraine expressed deep gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for providing an opportunity to hold the forum, which would be a next step to strengthen equal bilateral cooperation. It was noted that a critical factor of mutually beneficial cooperation was enriching the existing positive experience of long-term partnership between governmental organisations and business circles of Turkmenistan and Ukraine.

Exchanging views in a businesslike and constructive atmosphere, the forum participants discussed the reports on the current state and prospects for cooperation. Noting that there existed abundant resources to facilitate bilateral economic relations, the Ukrainian partners, who have the great experience in implementing large-scale joint projects in Turkmenistan, expressed the willingness to enhance cooperation in a wide spectrum of fields, including technology modernization of the oil and gas and transport sectors. The representatives of the Ukrainian shipyards and engineering companies made the video presentations of their activities.

Expansion of traditional cooperation with Ukraine was deemed to be quite promising in the light of Turkmenistan’s state development priorities, including the establishment of reputation of being a maritime power and the national mercantile marine as well as development of port infrastructure.

After the plenary session of the business forum was completed, vectors of cooperation were discussed during bilateral meetings between the members of the Ukrainian delegation and specialists of Turkmen ministries and departments, government organisations and businesses.
