OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2011. The programme of “Competition Day in Russia: a workshop “Ensuring Competitive Conditions on the Pharmaceutical Market”. The workshop focused on achieving of one of the priority tasks for FAS – combatting antimonopoly violations on the pharmaceutical market and ensuring transparency and accessibility conditions for potential buyers and consumers, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Presentations were given by: Paul Csiszar, Director of the Department for Basic Industries, Manufacturing and Agriculture, Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission; Alberto Nahmijas – Vice-General Secretary, Chief Economist of Italy’s Competition Authority; Richard Feinstein– Director of the Competition Bureau, the USA Federal Trade Commission; Theodor Tanner – General Director of Austrian Competition Authority; Gautier Duflos– an economist, a member of staff of the Economic Department, French Competition Authority; Sun-Kuk Kwon – Deputy Director General of the Korean Fair Trade Commission; Nurettdin Kaldirimci– the President of Turkey’s Competition Authority.

Presentations on behalf of FAS were made by Andrey Tsyganov – Deputy Head of FAS and Timophei Nizhegorodtsev – the Head of FAS Department for Control over Social Sphere and Trade.

Workshop participants discussed global trends in antimonopoly regulation on the pharmaceuticals market. In particular, participants agreed that all countries experience similar problems on these markets (patent agreements, numerous barriers created by large brand pharmaceutical companies for entry of generics, etc.) and therefore joint work and possibility to exchange information between various competition authorities allows finding new ways and methods to resolve them.
