OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2011. China's Fujia Dahua, which was first ordered to shut its Dalian petrochemical complex over fears of a chemical spill when Typhoon Muifa lashed the coast, was again told shut its petrochemical plant by local authorities, according to Chinese media reports.

The authorities also set up a group of experts to develop contingency plans for the shutdown procedure. In all, 18 security measures were recommended to support a safe and environmentally-friendly shutdown.

The plant, which is China's first privately-run petrochemical complex, is able to produce 700,000 mt/year of PX, 350,000 mt/year of benzene and 100,000 mt/year of orthoxylene.

Meanwhile, residents in Fujia have staged mass rallies calling on the government to shutter the plant and move it further away from the city center. But, Fujia Dahua is still operating as normal even though it has delayed liftings of naphtha feedstock from Iran.
