OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2011. In the framework of official visit to St. Petersburg of the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II, Vodokanal St. Petersburg and the Danish Consortium represented by Danish Water Services signed the agreement on modernization of Vodokanal’s pumping stations. The main objective of cooperation under this agreement is to implement energy saving measures and to improve the environmental situation in the region.

The agreement was signed by the Director General of SUE "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" Mr. Felix V. Karmazinov and the Executive Director of Danish Water Services Mr. Carsten Moller.

The parties expressed their confidence in the fact that future cooperation in the field of environmental protection and energy saving would make a significant contribution to the development of the city's water and sewerage systems. According to preliminary plans, the project will start by the end of 2011 and will be completed by the end of 2013.

The framework agreement contains a declaration of the key actions in relation to the cooperation of the parties. At the first phase, one of the Petersburg sewage pumping stations will be selected for modernization following the estimation and measurements of energy consumption; the mechanism of financing will be defined and overall design documentation prepared. The scope and types of equipment required for the station and training needs of the personnel will be defined; then, upon the completion of works at the selected station, the modernization results will be assessed. At the second phase, the parties intend to work out the modernization plan for the remaining sewage pumping stations and the scheme of project financing in the future. There will be a prioritized list of the pumping stations to be reconstructed, and the works will begin in accordance with this list.
