September 19, 2011. “In August, passenger traffic is traditionally the highest of the year, due to the completion of the holiday season,” commented Igor Borisov, director of Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, on the August results. “This year August was no exception: for the first time in history, passenger traffic has exceeded 3 million people and totaled 3,000,016. The highest "peak" occurred on August 14, when 109,239 passengers were served, and set an absolute record for all activities at the airport.

Passengers returning home after their summer vacations are attracted by the wide network of routes connecting Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, the largest number of unique routes of all the airports in the capital.

Passenger traffic on international routes totaled 1,000,870 people, up 21.6% over the same period last year.

On domestic routes, 1,146,000 people were served, which represents an increase of 18.9%, compared to August, 2010.

The number of flights in August, 2011 increased by 14.9%, compared with August of last year, and it was done with 24,311 landing operations.

In August, freight traffic also increased at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport. It was 16,189 tons, which is 18.1% higher than in August, 2010.

Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Russia and Eastern Europe. For 10 years, passenger traffic has increased almost 10-fold, from 2.8 million in 2000 to 22.3 million passengers in 2010.

More than 80 Russian and foreign airlines are partners of the airport. Domodedovo Airport has been chosen for the flight to Moscow by the members of the world's leading aviation alliances—Star Alliance, oneworld and SkyTeam.
