National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, bagged the prestigious PSE Excellence Award 2011 for Corporate Social Responsibility & Responsiveness in the Maharatna and Navratna category. Shri B.L. Bagra, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO received the award from Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises during the summit on 'India Public Sector Agenda @ 2020' in New Delhi yesterday. The summit was organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in collaboration with Department of Public Enterprises with a view to promote and reward excellence in Central Public Sector Enterprises.

“As a socially responsible corporate citizen, NALCO has always tried to reach out to the communities residing in the periphery of its units,” says Shri Bagra. “For us, it is no more charity, but responsibility. All our CSR initiatives are project based, ensuring community participation, accountability, sustainability and measurable results,” he added. It may be mentioned that the company has doubled its CSR budget to 2% of the net profit from 2010-11, by setting up a NALCO Foundation.
