OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2011. The Fifth session of the Inter-governmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation was held in Tashkent.

During the meeting, the sides noted that Uzbekistan and Vietnam have significant potential for development of bilateral trade-economic relations, which are not fully used now.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, bilateral trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Vietnam reached USD 7.6 million in 2010 and USD 5.5 million in the first half of 2011.

During the session, the officials of two states said that there are large perspectives in such sectors as oil and gas, automobile industries, agriculture, trade, tourism, chemistry industry, etc.

The Uzbek side also presented investment opportunities at Navoi industrial and economic zone.

According to the official data, currently, Uzbekistan has 15 joint ventures with Vietnamese investment, including three companies with 100% Vietnamese capital. They operate in such areas as silk industry, trade and catering.
