Reliance Infrastructure's (RInfra), Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS) has bought laurels to Indian Power Industry by becoming First Power Generation Company in the world to receive ISO 50001:2001. The ISO certification has been awarded to DTPS for its energy management systems, commitment and endeavors in the field of energy use and environment conservation.

Bureau Veritas Certification carried out the audit of various energy management systems adopted by the power stations for its operations before awarding the prestigious ISO 50001:2001 certification.

Speaking on the development Mr. Lalit Jalan, CEO, Reliance Infrastructure Limited, said, "It is a matter of great pride for us to become only Power Company in the world to receive ISO 50001:2011 certification for energy use and environment conservation. Reliance Infrastructure is proud to be playing its part, in India's credentials as a responsible stakeholder and a role model for the foremost global agenda of prudent energy and environment management. We accept this recognition on behalf of our team members and the entire Indian Power Sector."

He further added, "Alter receiving ISO 50001:2011, DTPS would derive numerous benefits of energy management. Certification will help the company in making better use of existing energy-consuming assets, monitor and manage reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, manage energy use and costs. The certification will also help in the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies and management of energy resources."

ISO 50001:2011 is the new global standard for Energy Management developed by the International Standard Organization. Effective energy management is a priority focus because of the significant potential to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas (GhG) emissions worldwide. The ISO 50001:2011 will be awarded to all the organizations and their activities; if

they can demonstrate and showcase commitment towards environment, conservation, social accountability and energy management.

In FY 2011, DTPS achieved remarkable operational excellence and thus was able to supply cheaper and dedicated 4423 Million units of power to Mumbai consumers. The plant's average PLF touched 101.00 % with availability factor of 96.48% and Heat rate of 2282 Kcal/KWh against CERC norm of 2500 Kcal/kwh in seven years.

DTPS is the first power station in the country that has received certifications in quality, environment, occupational health & safety, social accountability, IT security and energy management. Till date, the plant has 80 plus National & International Awards in operational excellence; environment management; safety and CSR.

DTPS is the first power plant in the country to integrate all its business processes through ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system. For all these endeavours, the power station has received certification for ISO 14001:2004, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 27001:2005, SA 8000:2008, and OHSAS: 18001:2007 & BS EN 16001:2009. Now, the Dahanu TPS is the first ever utility in the World to be certified for ISO 50001:2011 for its strong commitment for energy use and conservation.
