Tata Power’s, India’s largest integrated private power company, efforts in environment conservation and sustainability received a shot in the arm at the prestigious Asian Power Awards 2011 held in Malaysia. Its Trombay thermal power station located in Mumbai, received the top honour ie, ‘Gold’ for the Best Environmental Performance Power Plant and ‘Bronze’ in the Environmental Company of the Year category.

The Asian Power Awards, considered the ’Oscars of the power industry’, is a significant achievement and further reiterates Tata Power’s relentless efforts towards achieving excellence and high performance standards in its environment practices.

Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “We are glad to receive this prestigious award and it reiterates our commitment towards responsible growth. This award will further motivate us to strive harder in pursuing our efforts towards environment protection and conservation.”

The Trombay thermal power station has been recognised not only for its environmental practices but also for its outstanding safety practices within the organisation and also for the extra steps taken to reach its stakeholders and nearby communities with safety and health awareness campaigns and sessions on a regular basis.

Recently, Tata Power was also awarded the top honour for stable and outstanding safety performance, at the 10th Annual Greentech Safety Award 2011 by the Greentech Foundation. Further, the plant was also bestowed with the ‘Quality award’ by the Quality Circle Forum of India.
