OREANDA-NEWS. October 5, 2011. Power Machines OJSC have successfully produced and tested in-house a shaft-turning gear a 1200 MW high-speed turbine designed for Leningradskaya NPP-2 (LNPP-2) first power unit, which is currently under construction.

The contracts to supply a set of basic equipment for the turbine hall at Novovoronezskaya NPP-2 (NVNPP-2) and LNPP-2, which are under construction, were signed by Power Machines and Atomenergoprom JSC in May, 2008. The contracts’ overall price exceeds 40 billion roubles. Two power units equipped with WWER reactors with the electric power of 1200 MW are to be built at each of the nuclear power plants.

Earlier, in December 2010, Power Machines produced and tested a prototype of the 1200 MW turbine for the NVNPP-2 first power unit and this May, a completely water-cooled high-speed 1200 MW turbine generator designed for the same power plant was handed over to the customer after successful tests.

Completion of shipment of the NVNPP-2 first turbine and shipment of the LNPP-2 first turbine is due to commence in Q4 2011.

High-speed stream turbines and 1200 MW turbine generators for NPP power are innovative Power Machines’ developments aligned with a new generation of nuclear power plant units with enhanced reliability and safety. They are produced in Russia within the framework of the NPP-2006 project.

High-speed steam turbines К-1200-6,8/50 have been designed and produced with the use of new engineering solutions and technologies based on the experience gained in the process of design and production of turbines for Kudankulam NPP, India and Bushehr NPP, Iran as well as during turbine operating practice at Tianwan NPP, China.

Under the terms of the contracts, at the first phase, Power Machines are to produce, manufacture and deliver first power units two sets of steam turbines, condensers and special auxiliary equipment for turbo systems as well as two sets of turbine generators with auxiliary systems’ equipment, excitation system and an exciter to the NVNPP-2 and LNPP-2. As a full-scope supplier of turbo system equipment, Power Machines are also to procure heat exchanging and pumping equipment, tubing pipes and necessary fittings. Moreover, Power Machines’ engineers are to carry out chief supervision of installation activities and commissioning of all delivered equipment at the NPP sites.

During the second phase, Power Machines are to provide similar equipment and services for the second power units NVNPP-2 and LNPP-2.

NVNPP-2 and LNPP-2 are the first nuclear power plants to be built from scratch in Russia within the last fifteen years.
