OREANDA-NEWS. October 6, 2011. Aegis, a global outsourcing services company and part of the USD 17 billion by revenue Essar Group, today laid the foundation stone and ground breaking ceremony for its new centre in Chhindwada in Madhya Pradesh. The foundation stone was laid by the honourable Union Cabinet Minister -  Urban Development, Shri Kamal Nath, in the presence of Shri Deepak Saxena, MLA, and other district officials.

“I am very happy to welcome Aegis to Chhindwada, which has a large educated population and good infrastructure. I am happy that Aegis has taken the lead in coming to smaller towns and such initiatives will not only provide jobs to locals but also invigorate the economy. I, on behalf of the district administration, offer them all the support and wish them all the best for this centre,” Shri Kamal Nath, Union Cabinet Minister - Urban Development, said.

“Aegis has been a pioneer in many things and we take pride in doing things differently. We were the first to take lead in opening up world class delivery centres in in towns like Srinagar, Hazira, and Jamshedpur. We were looking at other smaller towns to set up our operations and have found an able supporter in Sri Kamal Nath, who has convinced us with his words and actions to come to Chhindwada. This centre, I am sure, will go a long way in fulfilling career aspirations of talented and motivated local youths who look forward to working with a multi-national organisation in their own town,” Mr. Aparup Sengupta, MD & Global CEO, Aegis, said.

Aegis Chhindwada, spread across 1.6 acres, will be a modern and world-class facility, replete with state of the art air conditioned work environment with cafeteria, recreation, and training centre. The centre will have an initial capacity of 300 seats, which translates into 500 direct white collared jobs and is expected to additionally generate two to three times indirect employment.Depending on business requirement, the capacity could be doubled. The centre will go live in early 2012.

“We are thankful to the honourable minister and local administration for the support we have received in setting up the centre. Chhindwada has a number of reputed schools and colleges and we are happy to be become part of the community here. We are very happy to be the enabling agents in fulfilling career aspirations of talented and motivated local youths who look forward to working with a multi-national organisation in their own town. We have many employees from Chhindwada working in our other centres like Bhopal and we are confident of building a strong cadre of employees with their support,” Sudhir Agarwal, President, Global M&A and Strategic Initiatives, said.

Aegis is planning to set up many such centres in Tier III and IV towns and is in discussion with several state government and local bodies. It has significant expertise in launching and scaling-up operations in tier II and III towns like Hazira, Srinagar, Lucknow, Jamshedpur, and Bhopal. While Srinagar has been scaled up to 500 people in just one year, Jamshedpur, which opened in 2008, today is 3,000 people strong. These centres are expected to stem migration and also encourage reverse migration, as talented local people who may have moved to other cities for jobs, will not now have an opportunity to fulfil their career aspiration in their own hometown, as has happened in other places Aegis has opened its centre in.
