OREANDA-NEWS. October 6, 2011. The meetings with the members of the delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany led by Patrick Meinhardt, a Bundestag deputy and member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the States of Central Asia were held at the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan.

In the morning the German guests were received at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, where they discussed the ways to strengthen further inter-parliamentary contacts which served as an essential factor for strengthening bilateral relations. Exchanging views on priority options for cooperation, the members of the delegation were briefed of the activity of the Parliament in the context of the large-scale reforms in all spheres of life, including the legal sector initiated by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Expressing satisfaction with the fruitful character of actively developing Turkmen-German partnerships, in particular at the parliamentarian level, the foreign guests called for widening mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with the Turkmen state, which resolutely moved forward along the path of economic progress and democratic development.

The meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs focused on the prospects of cooperation within the major international structures, including the European Union and the United Nations. In this regard Mr. Patrick Meinhardt underlined that Germany supported the new constructive initiatives for forming architecture of global security able to ensure stability and sustainable progress of the modern world that President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had put forward from the high rostrum of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. In particular, these include the initiatives for addressing the challenges to peaceful development and economic revival of Afghanistan including through the active involvement of the neighbouring state in implementing regional transport and energy projects.

Noting that interstate relations were dynamically developed at the present stage, the meeting participants expressed the willingness of Turkmenistan and Germany to consistently enhance the constructive dialogue.

The members of the delegation had the meetings at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Academy of Sciences. The guests, who showed the keen interest in fostering cooperation with Turkmenistan that had earned the high international prestige as a very promising and dependable partner, said that the German business circles stood ready to actively collaborate in implementing ambitious projects of regional significance initiated by the Turkmen leader.

The meetings at the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the issues regarding the development of Turkmen-German cooperation in particular spheres will be discussed, are scheduled in the programme of the visit of the German delegation to Ashgabat.
