OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2011. A meeting of Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Anatoliy Blyznyuk and the Director of the Sustainable Development Department of the World Bank Peter Thomson was held. During the meeting the sides discussed the implementation of the joint project "Urban Infrastructure", which is funded by the World Bank. "Urban Infrastructure" is a campaign to improve water supply, sanitation and promote the effectiveness of 15 different communal services in Odesa, Chernihiv and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project has started in 2009 year and completes in late 2012 year.

According to Anatoliy Blyznyuk the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services could attract additional 6.6 million dollars to the total amount of the project of budget since June to September of this year. "We follow a strategy to attract not only borrowed money, but money of the state and local communities. It makes an extremely strong synergetic economic effect, promotes activism and legal consciousness of the local community", - the Minister stressed.

In general, during implementation of the project Ukraine additionally financed the project for 21.5 million USD; it was 15.4% of the total sum of loan. Experts of the World Bank testified that almost all procurements were accomplished.

15 months last to the end of the project "Urban Infrastructure" so the Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services address to Peter Thomson to speed up some important funding procedures. In his turn, the Director of the Sustainable Development Department of the World Bank approved a strategy for co-financing and said that Ukraine would receive soon from 200 to 300 million dollars for reconstruction and replacement of worn-out water and sewage systems.
