OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2011. US stocks fell on Friday with Financials (-3.51%) and Industrials (-1.76%) as the leaders. S&P 500 index lost 0.83%, Russell 2000 Index – 2.68%. VIX inched down 0.19% to 36.27.  Italy downgrade by Moody’s disappointed investors. Economic data were neutral. Non-farm payrolls rose by 103K in September vs consensus forecast of 60K. 

Consumer Credit declined USD 9.5 bn in August vs consensus rise of USD 8 bn.EURUSD closed near 1.34. Asian stocks mostly rose on Monday. S&P/ASX added 0.92%. Korean Kospi inched up by 0.38%. Nikkei added 0.98%. The European stock indices futures rose slightly in the morning - Dow Jones Stoxx 50 futures was up by 0.44% while Dax futures added 0.05%. S&P futures added 1.02%. In the US, Columbus Day will be observed today with only stock exchanges open and bond markets closed. ECB Trichet is to speak at 22:00 GMT.
