OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2011. Atomstroyexport (a ROSATOM’s company) and MD Directorate for Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant (Republic of Belarus) signed an agreement concerning construction of Units 1 and 2 of the NPP in Belarus.

On behalf of the customer the Contractual Agreement was signed by Mikhail Filimonov, the Director of the MD Directorate for Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant; on behalf of the prime contractor the document was signed by Alexander Glukhov, the President of Atomstroyexport.

The Contractual Agreement defines basic provisions of a general contract for the turn-key construction of two NPP units of a total power capacity of up to 2,400 MW with V-941 reactor installations. It is envisaged that Belarus NPP will built on conditions of the full responsibility of the prime contractor.

For construction of the first Belarus NPP the AES-2006 design developed by Saint-Petersburg Atomenergoproekt has been selected. Since 2004 SPB AEP has been directly involved in all work stages from selection of the site, selection of a technology and type of the plant, review and justification of environmental aspects through drafting the contract supplements.

Ostrovets site in Grodno Region was selected for the plant. The project of Belarus NPP meets requirements of Russian current legal and regulatory documents in the field of the use of atomic energy and developed in accordance with recommendations of the IAEA and EUR requirements. The project features enhanced nuclear, radiation, industrial and environmental safety characteristics for NPPs, as well as higher performance indicators.
