OREANDA-NEWS. October 12, 2011. US stocks closed flat on Tuesday with Technology (+0.65%) and Industrials (+0.33%) as the leaders. S&P 500 index added 0.05%, Russell 2000 Index – 0.59%. VIX inched down 0.48% to 32.86.  Obama job creation Senate failure, European bail-out package block by Slovakian parliament, negative Alcoa earnings report  pressed on the stocks.

EURUSD closed near 1.36.

Asian stocks were mixed on Wednesday. Shanghai stock indices rose 3.0-3.4% on stock buybacks. S&P/ASX added 0.92%. Korean Kospi inched up by 0.81%. Nikkei lost 0.4%.

The European stock indices futures fell slightly in the morning - Dow Jones Stoxx 50 futures was down by 0.52% while Dax futures lost 0.77%. S&P futures lost 0.04%. ASML report was better than analysts had estimated, but the stock did not reacted much to the event.
