Mumbai: Club Enerji (previously known as Tata Power Energy Club), Tata Power’s nationwide energy conservation movement led by schoolchildren, has been bestowed with the ‘Environmental Leadership Award’ and ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practice Overall Award’ by Asian Leadership Awards 2011, at Dubai. The awards have been given to recognise the organisation for developing and executing a successful and measurable energy conservation initiative and the impact it is making to the society at large.

The Asian Leadership Awards are hosted by the Asian Confederation of Businesses. The awards are dedicated to high-level knowledge exchange through thought leadership and networking amongst decision-makers across industry segments in Asia. These awards aim to recognise the achievements of Asia’s leading business visionaries across all industry sectors and to honour their great contributions towards the region’s economic development.

The awards are judged by an independent, hi-calibre jury of professionals from across Asia in various categories. The countries participating in the Asian Leadership Awards include Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, Hong Kong, China, Cyprus, Indonesia, Iran, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Lebanon, the Philippines, Brunei, Oman, Nepal, Pakistan, and Israel, amongst others. CMO Council, CMO Asia and World Brand Congress are the strategic partners.

Speaking on the recognition, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “We are delighted to see Club Enerji being felicitated on a global platform once again. The programme has been very well received by the schoolchildren and has become a national movement. We are now aiming to raise the bar and take it to a higher level of resource conservation.”

Club Enerji has been recently recognised as the ‘Best Marketing Campaign of the Year’ by CMO Asia Awards 2011, ‘Most Innovative Campaign’ at the USA’s The Energy Daily’s 2010 Leadership Awards. In November 2010, Club Enerji was bestowed with the Gold Award by the Association of Business Communicators in the ’Environmental Communications’ category and was ranked number two out of 22 entries in the ’Earth Care’ category of Siemens Ecovative Award 2010.

This award is a further shot in the arm for the campaign that is extremely active and encourages the whole family to practise energy conservation in their daily lives in various cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Jamshedpur, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Belgaum, Pune and Lonavla. Under the programme, students from schools undergo a simple but effective audio-visual presentation sessions, creating awareness on the increasing demand for energy, the existing gap between demand and supply and the impact on the environment. Further, Club Enerji guides students to prevent wastage of resources.

Today, Club Enerji has covered 400 schools, sensitised more than 2.8 million (28 lakh) citizens across the nation and over three million units of electricity have been saved, till date. The club is proud to have more than 19,095 Energy Champions and 32,257 Energy Ambassadors this year, who are spreading the mantra of energy conservation among people across various age and income groups. Today, there are 154 mini clubs across Mumbai, which are run by the schoolchildren with the aim to stop wastage of electricity.
