OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2011. As many as eight producers of home-made wines became the winners of the tenth issue of the "Polobocul de Aur 2011" (Golden Cask) contest, held on the sidelines of the National Wine Day, which takes place at the Chisinau-based Moldexpo exhibition centre.

The "Polobocul de Aur " contest is organized by the Moldovan Chamber of Trade and Industry (CCI) in order to award the best producers of home-made wines, to promote the national wine-making traditions, to enhance the consumption culture and to foster the experience exchange between the households producing home wines.

At the awarding ceremony, the head of the Moldovan Chamber of Trade and Industry Gheorghe Cucu said that "the home-made wine is the visit card of each householder. In this respect, the CCI is organizing, for the tenth time in a row the "Polobocul de Aur" contest, awarding the best producers of home-made wines. We are glad that year by year, the number of people participating in this contest increases. As many as 6,000 samples of wines have been presented over ten years within the framework of the above contest," Cucu said.

Some prizes were handed by Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar, who has highly praised the CCI's activity in the organization of the contest, highlighting its importance. "The best wines are always the home-made ones, served in the cellars by the householders. The home-made wine has a particular significance for our people, as its nobility cannot be compared with other beverages. This year, the wine-makers had a good grape harvest," the deputy prime minister said. He voiced hope that the next issue of the context would bring together even more producers who would be worthy of receiving prices.

The Grand Prize, a golden cask with a capacity of 120 litres was given to the best home-made wines' producers from Cahul, Calarasi, Causeni, Ialoveni, Orhei and Vulcanesti districts. Also, two other wine-makers from Cahul and Causeni districts received a special prize - a 50-liter cask.

As many as 500 producers of home-made wines participated in the regional stage of the "Polobocul de Aur" contest, organized at the local branches of the Moldovan Chamber of Trade and Industry in February-March 2011. The wine tasting at the republican level, which brought together 60 wine producers and 70 samples of wines, took place on 25 March 2011 at the Chisinau-based House of Wine.
