OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2011. On October 17, 2011, DTEK starts exporting 145 to 200 MW of electricity to Poland. Commercial export of Ukrainian electricity to Poland resumed after a two-year hiatus.

In December 2010, DTEK purchased the access rights to the cross-border capacities for transmission of up to 215 MW to Poland. On October 7 2011, Polish system operator announced a successful tender for access rights to the 215 MW of Polish transmission capacity from Ukraine for the period from October 15, 2011 through the end of the year.

‘Since October 2009, Polish electricity market had been unavailable for Ukraine. DTEK’s efforts to reach the end consumers in Poland and liberalization of capacity access rules by the Polish operator have made possible the resumption of electricity export from Ukraine to Poland. Electricity export to Poland will secure optimal load for generating capacities of Dobrotvorska TPP, member of Zapadenergo PJSC,’ said Andrey Favorov, Director of DTEK Power Trade, a company in charge of DTEK’s energy export business.

The exact amount of electricity export through the end of 2011 will be determined by the market conditions in the Polish market. DTEK’s partner in Poland, Alpiq, is one of the largest energy groups in Europe. Alpiq is active in the energy markets of 33 European countries and provides a full set of services from electricity generation to sales.
