OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2011. Tata Elxsi announced the successful delivery of the signage system for the recently-launched Bangalore Metro, as the signage design partner to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL). It worked with BMRCL to create an intuitive and effective signage system to ensure commuters have an easy and stress-free travel.

In an increasingly-urbanised scenario, signage design is gaining importance in public infrastructure and large corporate spaces. Well-designed and effective signage transcends language barriers and allows users to find their way in public spaces easily without having to ask for help. It helps direct traffic in the most efficient and optimum manner to avoid congestion at any point, and minimises the need for helpdesks and information points.

The signage system designed by Tata Elxsi for Bangalore Metro fosters efficient passenger flow and safety, coupled with a stress-free travel experience. It provides an easy-to-understand system for commuters to interpret the network and station layouts and the optimum routes to get to their destinations.

The scope of the project encompassed the overall design strategy for the signage system, design of the key graphic elements, selection of the most appropriate locations for placement and actual implementation of the signage across all stations. Phase 1 of Bangalore Metro now covers six of the 40 stations planned, and Tata Elxsi will support BMRCL for all stations in subsequent phases.

Speaking on this occasion Anil Sondur, vice president, industrial design, Tata Elxsi, said, “The launch of Bangalore Metro is indeed a momentous occasion and we are proud to be associated with it. We believe that a city like Bangalore will grow multifold with this mass transit rail system and signage systems are integral for the success of any transportation network. This will ensure that there is an efficient passenger flow and safety, seamlessly reinforcing a world-class travelling experience.”
