OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2011. Belarus’ government is hoping to draw from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) a stand-by loan of U.S. USD 3-7 billion, the press-service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Belarus said in a statement.

The statement was made Monday following the meeting of the IMF team led by Christopher Jarvis and Belarusian premier Mikhail Myasnikovich.

“The government has confirmed Belarus’ interest in promptly resuming the IMF credit support to the tune of USD 3-7 billion”, the statement said.

During the meeting the parties discussed the Belarusian government’s economic policies, the economic forecast for 2012 and the prospects of further cooperation with the IMF.

IMF experts praised the authorities’ plans to unify the exchange rates at a market rate and to float the ruble, the press-service said.

The parties accentuated that Belarus’ recent economic policy had been in tune with the IMF recommendations listed in the final note issued y the IMF post-programme monitoring mission.

Belarus posted a deficit-free consolidated budget in January-August, with emission crediting of state-run programmes kept under 4% of the GDP.
