OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2011. A new aircraft of Somon Air, Boeing 737-900, arrived to Domodedovo Airport from Dushanbe. It was the first time, when the aircraft of such a modification has performed a regular flight in the CIS.

"It is very honorable to be the first one, and we are delighted that Somon Air was the first to offer its passengers flights on an aircraft of this class" - Director of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Igor Borisov, welcomed the first flight of the new aircraft.

Somon Air - the national carrier of Tajikistan – is related with Moscow Domodedovo Airport by a long-standing partnership. It is operating flights from Domodedovo Airport to Tajikistan in three destinations: Dushanbe (2 daily flights), Khujand (1 daily flight) and Kurgan-Tube (1 flight a week).

In 2010, Somon Air provided its services to 314,000 passengers on flights to/from Moscow. During the first 9 months of 2011, the figure was 244,000, which is 7% higher compared with January-September last year.

Boeing 737-900 aircraft was built by special order at the factory in Seattle, the USA. The interior of the aircraft is made in accordance with the most advanced technology Boeing Sky Interior.

Domodedovo Airport held a special spotting event dedicated to the arrival of the new aircraft of Somon Air, during which attending spotters and bloggers had an opportunity to capture the takeoff and landing of the new aircraft.

Tajik Air is a national carrier of Tajikistan founded in 1992. The airline is a leader on routes between Moscow and Tajikistan and the second largest air carrier in the CIS in terms of passenger traffic to Domodedovo Airport. Apart from Moscow, the airline route network includes flights to other destinations: Saint-Petersburg, Samara, Sochi, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Nizhnevartovsk, Tyumen, Surgut, Irkutsk.

Somon Air is the first private-owned airline of Tajikistan, operating flights to over 16 destinations from Dushanbe to Frakfurt – am – Main, Dubai, Istanbul, Almaty, Urumchi, Jiddah, Bishkek as well as to such Russian cities as Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Yekateriburg and Orenburg.
