OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2011.October 31 the Czech party handed over bidding documents on Temelin NPP Phase Two construction in the Czech Republic to Russian-Czech consortium.

The consortium of Skoda JS a.s. (Czech Republic), Atomstroyexport and OKB Gidropress (Russia) offers MIR 1200 design developed by St. Petersburg Atomenergoproekt.

The tender for construction of Units 3 and 4 of Temelin NPP with an option of building three more power units in European countries was called for on August 3, 2009. The international consortium was established on October 14, 2009. It presented MIR 1200 design, which is a modernized international reactor of 1200 MW capacity based on VVER technology.

According to Denis Kolchinsky, Chief Project Engineer at SPb AEP, MIR 1200 is an evolutionary project of enhanced safety which is supported by proven and justified engineering solutions. “The design is intended for sales in Europe and, in particular, considers special requirements of bidding specification for construction completion of Temelin NPP. The design is unique in its combination of state-of-the-art active safety systems and passive systems of beyond design basis accidents management and fully conforms to recommendations of EUR and IAEA in part of safety; it is one of the best representatives of Generation III+ reactors,” he explained.

An experience in successful operation of plants with VVER reactors now exceeds 1400 reactor-years. Nuclear power plants with VVER reactors have been built in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary and other European countries. They are safe and economically efficient. Besides, a large part of NPP equipment is produced in series that will help to bring up to 70% the involvement of Czech companies in supply of equipment, works and services during construction.
