OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2011. Baghdad Auto Show opened. As a Chinese leading Independent automaker, Chery showed up with many star models. Baghdad Auto Show is Iraq’s largest and most influential international auto show. This year’s exhibition attracted more than 100 exhibitors, including multinational auto brands such as Benz, BMW, Peugeot, Honda, Toyota and Hyundai. On the scene filled with auto giants from around the world, Chery’s booth drew wide attention by its sporty design, rich exhibits and beautiful Eastern models.

In the morning of the opening day, government officials, including the Iraqi minister of commerce and general manager of SCAI Plant directly under the Ministry of Industry and Minerals of Iraq, visited Chery’s booth in the company of Qiao Guohui and Liang Yong, deputy general managers of Chery International Middle East Region. The officials showed great interests in Chery models, and spoke highly of Chery’s determination to take roots in the Iraqi market and provide cost-effective products to locals.

This time, Chery exhibited a wide range of models, including medium & high-end official model G6, G5 that has returned with glories from Nurburgring in Germany, fine family bestsellers like Tiggo, E5, A3 and Fulwin2, utility commercial model H5, fashionable city mini SUV X1, as well as X5 that has competed in Dakar Rally twice.

As China’s first real independent medium & high-end model, with a length of 4,968mm and a wheelbase of 2,820mm, G6 combines mainstream design concepts and trends of China and the West, possesses a full and muscular body, and outshines other similar models. Upon appearance, G6 became a focus of attention due to steadiness and grandness, and aroused interest from several government officials including the Iraqi minister of construction and minister of commerce. After an inquiry into G6’s parameters and technical characteristics, the Iraqi minister of oil highly acknowledged it. Fine models such as Tiggo, E5, A3 and Fulwin2 were favored by visitors, some of which placed orders directly. Also, commercial model H5, Q22B, mini SUV X1 and pure SUV X5 attracted wide attention.
While exhibiting cars, Chery’s booth staged a spectacular model show. Chinese models, in traditional Chinese frocks patterned with blue and white porcelains, sent out a breath of Chinese air, making Chery’s booth the most popular one. Visitors came in endless streams for consultation and order placement.
A visitor from Baghdad told the press, “I like Tiggo very much, as it is fashionable and spacious, I can drive it for work and weekend outings and it suit me well.” Another young visitor fell in love with A3 and ordered one. “A3 is handsome, especially its red body, it is the most beautiful model I have ever seen, and I fell in love with it at first sight,” he said.

Local distributor Ali A.Haleem told the press, “The exhibition has boosted my confidence in Chery. I have seen Chery’s tremendous technical strength and the great attraction of its products to Iraqi consumers. We have full confidence in future cooperation with Chery!”

Since entering Iraq in 2008, Chery has improved its sales steadily for four consecutive years. Chery achieved a sales volume of 12,000 units in Iraq in 2010 and is expected to increase the figure to 14,000 units this year, thus maintaining a high annual growth of 17%. The exhibition will lay a solid foundation for Chery’s further development in Iraq.
