OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2011. Finally the construction work will be started on 2400MW Power Plant of Jindal Power Limited, (JPL) at Tamnar Chhattisgarh. This project was to come up by March, 2012 i.e. in the 11th Plan, but due to the unreasonable delays in getting Environmental Clearances (EC) the project has been delayed for more than 1 ? years.

The MoEF had granted Environmental Clearance (EC) for two units of 600MW each of the Expansion project of 2400MW (4x600 MW) of JPL at Tamnar, on 18-03-2011 and granted EC for balance two units of 600 MW on 04-11-2011.

There was a condition in the EC dt. 18.3.2011 that the Company should obtain permission from the Ministry of Coal, Government of India before starting construction activities. The Ministry of Coal has since communicated its permission to the Expansion Project to the State Government of Chhattisgarh on 01-11-2011.

It is pertinent to mention that the Company had earlier decided to set up the main plant of 2400 MW Expansion Project within 360 ha area which was approved by MoEF in 1997 for setting up of the Company’s 1000 MW IPP Project. Therefore, no additional land for the main plant of Expansion project of 2400 MW would be used than permitted by MoEF and State Government in 1997 for setting up of main plant of 1000 MW IPP Project. The 1000 MW Project is at present fully operational and rated as 2nd best in the Country on operational parameters.

The Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (ECB) has granted Consent to Establish (C to E) for the Expansion Project of 2400 MW (4x 600MW) today i.e. on 15-11-2011.

This will end the long wait for the implementation of this prestigious project of National Importance.

The Company had placed orders for 4 units of 600 MW on BHEL in early 2009. The financial closure for this Expansion Project of 2400 MW had been achieved on 26-03-2010. The Ministry of Coal, Government of India had approved Coal Linkage for 2 units of 600 MW on 29.1.2010.
