OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2011. Ukrainian railways have saved 5.1 thousand tons of diesel fuel, 29.6 million kW/hour, 914 m3 of natural gas, 775 tons of coal, 917 gigacalorie of thermal energy for 9 months of 2011 year due to energy efficiency measures. Total cost of energy savings amounted to 82.3 million.

These data were announced during a meeting with heads of operational staff of railways on energy saving, this meeting was held under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Director General of Railways Mykola Sergienko.

Experts of various railway’s enterprises discussed the current situation of energy savings and plans for the future, identified resources to fuel economy. Among them: reducing the number of extra scheduled stopping of trains, the cost of poor fellow needs, as well as more efficient use of locomotives and other equipment.

Among the specific measures that were discussed, there were plans to restore the power recovery circuit for 24 electric locomotives VL8 and DE1 of the Donetsk railway.

It was also discussed the need to more actively implement the recommendations of experts expressed on the results of energy audits. First of all, it will be focused on projects with low payback periods - replacing old boiler equipment, replacement bulbs on the railways’ buildings to energy saving electro lamps, improvement in the movement of trains to saving and others.
