OREANDA-NEWS. November 22, 2011. TRL Krosaki Refractories provided a lift irrigation point in Bhutia village in Lakhanpur block on November 19, 2011. This has been done under the company’s CSR programme named Upaj taken up by the community development and social welfare department of TRL Krosaki to provide irrigation facility to villagers. This facility will irrigate 120 acres of land and benefit 60 families including 40 SC and ST families of the village. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs5.7 lakh. The project consists of a 500ft-deep borewell, a 20hp pump, a pump-house and other fittings. The facility will help the villagers to have a second and third crop of paddy, mustard, moong, groundnut and vegetables.

Anup Kumar Sai, MLA, Brajarajnagar, along with Arup Kumar Chattopadhyay, managing director, TRL Krosaki, inaugurated the project on November 19, 2011, in the presence of villagers. A number of senior executives of the company and villagers were present at the inauguration function.

The main source of income for Bhutia villagers is from agriculture. Deprived of an irrigation facility, they approached the company. The villagers have adopted community farming which benefits all farmers, including marginal and landless farmers.

Earlier, TRL Krosaki had provided bathing ghats, ceiling fans and electrical fittings for the village schools and conducted agriculture awareness camps in the village. Under the Upaj scheme, the company has already provided a number of irrigation facilities in different villages of Lakhanpur block.
