OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2011. The Environmental and Natural Resources Secretary of the State of Maranhao (SEMA) has granted the Installation License for an additional generation capacity of 1,859 MW at the Parnaiba Thermoelectric Complex, which is a 70/30 partnership between MPX and Petra. MPX has already obtained an Installation License for the construction of up to 1,863 MW, bringing the total capacity of the Complex to 3,722 MW.

MPX currently has secured 1,531 MW of long-term power agreements and implementation has already begun.

The gas supply will be guaranteed by OGX Maranhao, a joint venture between MPX and OGX, which presented development plans for two gas fields in the Parnaiba Basin to the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) in May of 2011.

The Parnaiba Thermoelectric Complex is located in exploratory block PN-T-68, adjacent to the blocks where the natural gas will be produced. In addition, the plant will be able to connect to the national grid (SIN) through existing transmission lines, resulting in lower interconnection costs for the project.
