OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2011. Saint Petersburg Government, ALSTOM Transport and JSC Transmashholding have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation regarding the project of modernization and improvement of tram infrastructure and renewal of city tram fleet.

The MoC has been signed by the Governor of the City Mr. Georgy Poltavchenko, the Board Chairman of Transmashholding Mr. Andrey Bokarev and by the President of ALSTOM Transport Mr. Henry Poupart-Lafarge November 16, 2011. The signing ceremony took place at Transmashholding site located in Saint Petersburg - Oktyabrsky Electric Car Repair Plant (OEVRZ).

The Partners believe that their key objective is to ensure comfortable, safe urban transport meeting current requirements for the city population. It is assumed that a Competence Center will be established at ORVZ facilities, and Development and Manufacturing of low-floor rapid trams will be launched. The Project presented to the Governor provides an integrated transport product solution, including aftersale services, repair and equipment upgrading.

Moreover, ALSTOM Transport and Transmashholding are open to provide advising support to the Government of northern capital in the area of the arrangement of urban transit network including power supply and other related infrastructure development as well as in optimizing passenger flow.

The French Partner of Transmashholding has significant experience in development tram network solutions. Today 1500 trams of Alstom are operated in 40 countries on the lines with total length of 245.000 km.

In order to reach MoC objectives, the Parties are creating a joint working team.

An up-to-date 81-780/781 metro car was also presented to the Governor of the City. This metro car was designed for Saint Petersburg metro lines and represents the latest development of local engineers. It satisfies the latest requirements to safety, energy consumption, noise level and passenger comfort. A metro train was handled to Petersburg metro for pilot operation.
