OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2011. On November 1st 2011, for the first time in Ukraine, customers in a Kiev’s supermarket have got an opportunity to pay for purchases in seconds without cash and even without a credit card – by means of  special PayPass cards-stickers.

New PayPass contactless payments technology was launched by PrivatBank and MasterCard international payment system. Ukraine became 38th country where the contactless payments work. In order to make purchases quickly and safely, you need to order in PrivatBank a special sticker-card which can be attached to any object: mobile phone, purse, keychain, jewelry, etc. PayPass sticker-card is equipped with a chip and an antenna that allows chip to contact the bank through a special trading terminal and to confirm transaction almost immediately. The sticker costs UAH50. To activate it a PrivatBank credit card is needed.

The device works simply: the sticker should be placed by few centimeters to a terminal that scans it and performs the payment. Moreover, if the amount of purchase by the sticker-card does not exceed USD100, payment is made without entering a PIN-code and signing a check. This sticker-card is always in the client’s hands and payment is made contactless. The first customer who tried the contactless payment became the noted Ukrainian racing driver Aleksey Mochanov - he paid for a pack of apples and grapes with the first activated sticker in Ukraine. The first transaction was fulfilled so prompt that photographers and cameramen did not have time to react and asked Mochanov to buy the fruits once more. "For me, the speed is the meaning of life, so, when I was asked to make the first ever contactless payment, I gladly agreed but I did not expect it to be so instant" - said Aleksey Mochanov.

Since November 2011 Ukrainians will have a unique opportunity to make electronic payments quickly and conveniently. The PayPass contactless sticker-card, functioning as a normal payment card, allows to carry transaction immediately: putting a card to a special terminal, cardholders are no longer have to pass the card to cashier for processing procedures. Moreover, if the purchase price does not exceed USD100 - payments with a card are made without entering a PIN-code and signing a check. The card is always in the hands of cardholder and the payment is made without contact.

Transactions with PayPass stickers are made through a special terminal - the first such terminals in Ukraine have been installed in the hypermarket network MegaMarket. Before long such terminals will appear in all major retail networks.

"Until the end of 2011, the bank intends to install more than 2 thousand such terminals and issue more than 300 thousand contactless sticker-cards, - says the head of the sale enterprise servicing business of PrivatBank Roman Neginsky. - At the first stage this technology will be implemented in Kiev retail outlets, and since the first quarter of 2012 – all over Ukraine."
