OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2011. According to the Federal customs service of Russia and the State Statistics Service of Karelia, in the 9-month period from January to September of the current year growth of foreign trade turnover in Karelia has made 125% to the level of the previous year. Enterprises of the republic have conducted foreign trade operations amounting to USD 1 billion 511 million, including 1 billion 175 million of export and 335,8 million of import.

Export has exceeded import 3.5-fold. Geographical orientation of commodity circulation remains the same, the most active relations Karelia supports with non-CIS states. The share of countries non-CIS states in commodity circulation on results of 9 months of 2011 has made 96%. The largest trading partners of our republic are Finland, China and the Netherlands, their share in commodity circulation has made 39%.

Positive dynamics of foreign trade was caused by favorable conjuncture of foreign markets on principal items of export in January-September of 2011.

The greatest relative density in export deliveries belongs to pulp-and-paper production and makes 36%, the share of iron-ore pellets makes 28.2%, the share of timber and woodware makes 13.8%, the share of nonferrous metals makes 9.5%.

At the same time, the total amount of import in value terms in comparison with the similar period of the last year has grown by 45%.

On results of 9 months of 2011 the volume of import from non-CIS states in monetary terms has grown by 37.7%, and import from the CIS countries has grown 2.2 times.

Deliveries of mineral and chemical products, machines, equipment and vehicles prevail in commodity structure of import.
