OREANDA-NEWS. December 13, 2011. Russia plans to build three new nuclear-powered icebreakers, Russian government press office reports quoting Rosatom’s head.

General Director of Rosatom Sergey Kirienko told Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during their working meeting that the old icebreakers life will end in 2018-2020.

The new icebreakers that are planned to be constructed at St. Petersburg-based Baltic Shipyard will be able to break 3-meter thick ice, Kirienko said.
