OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2011. Ukraine and Belarus have agreed to sign the intergovernmental agreement on regional and border cooperation. This was announced by the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economic Development and Trade Andriy Klyuyev after the Twentieth session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Belarussian joint commission on trade and economic cooperation held in Kyiv.

According to Andriy Klyuyev, creating the necessary legal framework will give new impetus to such cooperation. In his opinion, interregional and cross-border cooperation is an additional reserve for increasing trade turnover between the two countries.

According to participants of meeting, today more than 60% of the total trade turnover between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus account for only five regions – Kyiv and Kyiv region, and Lviv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, therefore it is necessary to employ and other regions.
The parties have also agreed to Provisions on the organization of visiting fair trade in the border regions of Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus with goods of national production.
